I have installed your Elegance theme and am experiencing very slow page loads (14-20 seconds).

I have tried swapping to a default WordPress theme, and the site goes back to being fast.

I have re-activated the Elegance theme and disabled all plugins, and it is still really slow.

I have tried installing the WP Super Cache plugin, but that only speeds up the site once each page has been visited once, which is no use in a real-world environment.

Obviously, I'd like to be able to run the site without the Super Cache plugin, as it doesn't work for people who have submitted comments etc.

My hosting company have informed me that the theme does the following:
This page has 26 external Javascript scripts.
This page has 14 external stylesheets.
This page has 18 external background images.

Is this what is slowing it down?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'd just like to throw a bit more information in here, it seems that the blog page does not suffer from the speed problem. Maybe this will help you track down what is causing this.

I hope you can help. I have spent a lot of hours creating a website for somebody using the theme, and I can't put it live until it runs at an acceptable speed.

Hi, sorry to hear problems what you have. I tried to checked your site few times, but finally it looks still the same on my end - javascript files, css files and others were loaded pretty fast as you can see on first attached image, the main problem I see in speed of loading images. You can see in second image that loading of images takes most of site loading time.
Iam not sure what you meant with 18 external background images, I see there loaded just images which are used on site, and are not from any external source, all are on your server - last two attached images.
We didnt noticed any speed problems with theme itself on all our installations, and also the most of users have not these problems so hard to say from our end what exact may influence site slow load.

Hi, thanks for coming back to me. I have asked my hosting company for some help on this, and they came back with the following:

It looks like it is due to loopback connections. I have run a trace of system calls made by your website when it is accessed and I can see this:

connect(5, {sa_family=AF_INET, sin_port=htons(80), sin_addr=inet_addr("79.170.44.77")}, 16) = -1 EINPROGRESS (Operation now in progress)

This is a connection back to the server that the site is hosted on. This fails as HTTP loopback connections are disabled on our servers and so it keeps retrying for a long time.

I would recommend asking the theme providers if there is any way to update the theme so that it doesn't rely on HTTP loopback connections.

I also think it is worth mentioning again that the Blog page loads fine, super fast! It must be the only page that doesn't cause a loopback connection attempt.

If you guys could make the site work without the loopback connections, I'd be so so grateful. Otherwise I'm really in trouble!

Is there any news on this speed issue? You said you were passing it to your developer for a response, but that was in January - it's September now.

I still have this site live using a caching system, but it does not work very well at all, I could really do with a response of some sort on this.

Hi Richard, Iam havig the same exact problem. My customer actually paid thedevs from w3total cache to set up caching in an optimal way and this is still the slowest theme i have ever seen. have you had any luck at all?

Hi, I get an answer from our developer. The information what you gave is not enough to solve the problem. Please try to change the permalink to default if you set it to another and rename or delete the htaccess files in installation folder.
