Compound theme issues.
  • I’m having some issues with your Compound theme. Excellent work on the overall look of the theme—it’s one of the best ones out there. But I need to get these resolved very quickly or I won’t be able to use it.

    1. The host will not set the allow_url_fopen to ‘on’ in the php.ini file. It appears this is throwing an error on the Compound > Options screen. The error is:

Warning: fopen(): http:// wrapper is disabled in the server configuration by allow_url_fopen=0 in /servers/[myusername]/htdocs/wp-content/themes/compound/lib/custom/custom.php on line 188
Warning: fopen(http://[myurl.com]/wp-content/themes/compound/fonts/google_fonts.txt): failed to open stream: no suitable wrapper could be found in /vservers/[myusername]/htdocs/wp-content/themes/compound/lib/custom/custom.php on line 188
Warning: stream_get_contents() expects parameter 1 to be resource, boolean given in /servers/[myusername]/htdocs/wp-content/themes/compound/lib/custom/custom.php on line 189
Warning: fclose() expects parameter 1 to be resource, boolean given in /servers/[myusername]/htdocs/wp-content/themes/compound/lib/custom/custom.php on line 191

Have you seen this before, and if so, is there a workaround?

I am now setting up the site in a MAMP configuration on a local machine. PHP and MySQL are up to date, current versions.

    2. When I downloaded the style.css and placed it in the editor, an error occurred when saving it. “The template does not exist.” When I go back to the editor, style.css sometimes shows up, other times I get the error. The template was installed correctly and is set as my active template. If I make any alterations to style.css and try to save it, I get the error again.

    3. The slider and ‘home page content’ on the front page disappears, seemingly at random. It defaults to a static image (even though there is no static image set in the options). I can’t get it to come back on, but then after not changing anything on the site it reappears. Sometimes this is several hours, sometimes several minutes. This does not coincide with the style.css error.

    4. When the front page slider and content disappear, the top menu drop downs also do not work. A mouseover on the nav creates the dropdown, but when the mouse is moved toward the dropdown it goes away. This all points to a css problem, but I can't trace where it is.

    Thank you for the help.

  • Hi Patrik,
Unfortunately, do to the issues I've had I am now developing the site locally (MAMP). I've seen some of these issues in other threads (slider disappearing, dropdowns not working, etc.). Are there any updates available?

    Thank you.
