Okay so I reset the settings in the dashboard... and somehow that fixed the css issue. I would highly recommend the developers over there run through this same scenario (delete that category listed above) and see if it can recreate the issue I had where the css broke. Not sure what the issue is there but that about gave me a heart attack for a good solid half hour :P

I'm experiencing this same CSS issue while doing a large number of completely random things:

If I change the display of grid portfolio items from 15 to 20 - it's fine. If I change it to 25, it breaks. If I delete two files from a category, the 20 no longer works. If I change it back to 15 it works again.

I'm also unable to see newly-made grid portfolio items anymore on the grid.

I would really appreciate some kind of response to these problems, because this is adding several hours of additional work and to be perfectly honest it's quite frustrating.

I'm just some other person who bought the theme, but maybe this could help you:
if you delete a category you must make sure each portfolio item is still directed to a still existing category, if that isn't the fact you come across problems

if that doesn't cause your problems, i hope one of the team will help you solve the issue, success with your site :)

I tried to reproduce all what you wrote above.
You are right with error when grid portfolio items (or just one of them) are not assigned to least as one category.
All other problems you wrote I can't reproduce, all works fine when I work around it.
I sent problem to our developer and he look at it.
